Bio
Jon "Grim" Rosario (b. 1991) is an internationally renowned instructor, an evocative contemporary artist as well as a high-energy graffiti artist. Over the length of his career, he's managed to work with and consulted companies internationally about their art direction, art products, and in many cases, he's produced art for these companies. He's also found success selling original paintings to private collectors worldwide! During his professional career, he's become the leading authority of information and study into graffiti and its artistic fundamentals.
As a child, he was always surrounded by art as he grew up in an artistic family. Art was unavoidable, on one hand, you had portraits and fine art all around with beautiful paintings and drawings hanging around the house! On the other, Jon would stumble across his father's graffiti, finding it on bookshelves, seeing tags on dressers, or even just a random sketch left out. At the early age of 8, Jon began doing graffiti and at the age of 15, he began going by "Grim".
The large-scale nature of graffiti felt natural and more immersive to him and for this reason, he began painting his contemporary art on a larger scale.
At this time, art was an everyday activity, drawing from the second he woke, till late into the night. With a full heart of ambition, he practiced hard to get into the Joe Kubert art school, but it was at this same time, he was hit with a life-changing event! An art teacher at his school had taken notice of his work and introduced Jon to Dorian Vallejo, a world-renowned oil painter. Seeing Dorian's work in person impacted Jon to the point where he took up hyper-realistic oil painting immediately and moved away from comics! Dorian had begun mentoring Jon and while lear His skills would quickly develop, and he began mixing his hyper-realistic portraits and figure drawings with his graffiti.
This manifested into a much more dynamic graffiti unlike any graffiti out there, solidifying his unique style. On the other hand, he began mixing the high-energy, evocative nature of his graffiti into his portraits! His contemporary work pushes to make the viewer react and feel what's being presented in the painting! Sometimes that means bringing a serious topic to light, and other times that means making people feel at peace.
Now Jon continues to do art consulting for companies and their products, and he also teaches fine art as well as graffiti to his fanbase online.
